The people doing the work need more than information.
Healing Not Hurting University provides interactive, healing-centered professional development that helps educators, staff and professionals better understand trauma, behavior, communication, emotional wellness and the people they serve.
Our sessions create room to learn, reflect, have honest conversations and leave with practical tools that can be used beyond the training.

People learn differently when they can see themselves in the conversation.
Our trainings connect information to real experiences. We use conversation, reflection, practical examples and interactive learning to help participants understand not only what they’re being taught, but what it looks like when they return to their classroom, organization, team or community.
We don’t expect one training to fix everything.
We do believe one training can help someone see something differently — and seeing differently can change the way we respond.

Understanding What’s Underneath the Behavior
Behavior tells us something.
Our trauma-informed professional development helps educators and youth-serving professionals look beyond “What’s wrong with them?” and begin asking better questions about what may be influencing the behavior they’re seeing.
Participants explore how trauma and adverse experiences can affect emotions, relationships, learning, communication and behavior — while also examining how our own responses can either help de-escalate a situation or unintentionally make it harder.
Understanding trauma doesn’t mean removing expectations or accountability. It means having more information about what may be happening underneath the behavior so we can respond more effectively.
Available for: Schools, districts, educators, school staff and youth-serving organizations

Caring about young people doesn’t automatically prepare us for everything they may bring into the room.
Educators, mentors, coaches and youth-serving professionals are often supporting young people through challenges that extend far beyond academics or programming.
Our professional development helps adults strengthen their understanding of emotional wellness, behavior, communication, relationships, boundaries and the experiences that can shape how young people show up.
The goal is to equip the adults doing the work with greater understanding and practical ways to create environments where young people can feel supported while expectations, structure and accountability remain intact.
Available for: Educators, mentors, coaches, after-school staff, recreation professionals, youth organizations and community-based programs

Wellness-Centered Training for Beauty Professionals
People don’t only bring their hair appointments into the salon.
They bring breakups. Grief. Family problems. Parenting stress. Anxiety. Trauma. Major life changes. And sometimes things they haven’t said anywhere else.
Beauty professionals often become trusted listeners. But being trusted with someone’s story doesn’t automatically mean knowing what to do with everything they share — or how to keep from carrying it home.
Healing Not Hurting University offers wellness-centered training for beauty professionals around healthy boundaries, communication, emotional wellness, difficult conversations and recognizing when someone may need support beyond what we can provide.
Created by a licensed cosmetologist with firsthand understanding of the beauty industry and years of experience in trauma-informed education and facilitation, this training understands both sides of the chair.
You don’t have to become your client’s therapist to be a safe person in their life.
And you don’t have to carry everyone else’s pain to care.
Available for: Salons, salon suites, beauty schools, cosmetology programs and beauty industry organizations

Our professional development isn’t built around theory alone.
Healing Not Hurting University has facilitated trauma-informed and healing-centered learning experiences with educators, school staff, parents and community partners — with participant feedback helping us continue to strengthen the work.
We pay attention to whether people felt engaged, whether the information connected to their experiences and, most importantly, whether they walked away with something they can use.
Better understanding can change the way we communicate, respond, lead and serve.
Bring Healing Not Hurting University to your school, organization, salon or team for professional development designed to move beyond information and into application.
